What makes this venue such a gem is not just it's location (though I will keep raving about Carmel Valley, even long after this blog post is over), but is the sheer versatility of the space. When you book the ranch, you aren’t just getting a ceremony space with a reception space right next to it; you’re getting an intentional flow that keeps your guests engaged.


Typically, we see the day unfold with a ceremony on the Ceremony Lawn overlooking the Santa Lucia Mountains, and if you've seen this ceremony site you know that's the only logical option (it's the definition of gorgeous). From there, it's a sun-drenched cocktail hour on the Stone Terrace or in the Inner Courtyard. For dinner, the Rose Patio provides a stunning canvas for long, family-style tables surrounded by Spanish-inspired terracotta; we recommend the sweetheart table or head table against the fence in the Rose Patio for an intuitive dinner set-up. When it's time to get the party started, the Carriage House offers a cozy, high-energy transition for open dancing with its original hardwood floors and twinkling rafter lighting.


Because the architecture is so rich with stone and wood, we love leaning into organic textures and intentional lighting that complements the sunset rather than competing with it.


Navigating Holman Ranch Requirements: Shuttles, Vendors, and Minimum Stays

We love any opportunity to journey to the central coast, and as your Carmel Valley wedding planner, our team focuses heavily on the logistics that happen behind the scenes to keep the experience effortless. Holman Ranch does have specific requirements, designed with the intention to protect your peace.


For instance, guest counts over (100) require a shuttle service. We love this because the drive up can be winding, and ensuring your guests arrive safely is the ultimate way to prioritize their comfort. There are limits on the size of shuttle that can drive on the roads within the venue, so keep this in mind when booking. If you do opt for larger shuttles, you will need to allot extra time for guest arrival, as they will need to utilize the venue's golf carts to be taken from the drop off point to the venue's ceremony & receptions sites.


The ranch provides a preferred list to help guide you as you assemble the vendor team for your big day. We love a preferred list, it almost feels like a cheat sheet for planning because you know those vendors are experienced with the space. But, you still have the flexibility to bring in any licensed and insured vendors that are not on their list if that better aligns with your vision! We will note, as you get farther from San Francisco and San Jose, the number of catering options becomes limited. There is still a fantastic list to choose from, but it's important to prioritize booking with a caterer soon after you book the venue to ensure you get your preferred option secured.


If you’re planning to host a rehearsal dinner or a "morning-after" brunch on-site, the venue does require a professional planner to oversee those extra festivities. Which we also highly recommend so you can spend that time catching up with family instead of directing deliveries. If you're looking for a planner, I think I might know of one 😉.

The valley can get quite breezy in the afternoons, that's being coastal for ya! We plan for this by coordinating with your florist to prioritize lower-profile arrangements in open areas, and ensuring all signage is weighted.


It's also essential to coordinate the vendor load-in schedule, as there is a limited loading zone. This little bit of extra work on the front end makes all the difference for your vendors, and helps to keep the environment calm and organized for you.


Also note that Monterey County has a strict noise ordinance; amplified music must move indoors to the Carriage House by 10:00 pm to ensure the night remains undisturbed for the surrounding community. They are quick to respond, incredibly detailed, and so accommodating on the day. It’s so special to find a venue that feels this grand yet this personal.


With 14 guest rooms that can sleep up to 46 people, it’s about getting your favorite people in one place for an entire weekend, creating those lifelong memories that happen in the quiet moments between the big events.
