How to Make a Wedding Emergency Kit: ft. the oso events Emergency Kit

Emergency is not a word you want to hear on your wedding day, but at oso events our wedding emergency kit is one of our essential tools for success (I’d take that black rolling bag over a Prada bag any day)! We like to say we bring our ✨oso magic✨ to all of our weddings, but a lot of that magic comes from being prepared for whatever the wedding day might throw at us or our clients. If we’re not able to be there on your wedding day—no worries— check out how we’re preparing for a wedding day.

Planning a wedding is an adventure filled with excitement, anticipation, and a touch of the unexpected. As a team of Bay Area wedding planners, we know firsthand the importance of being prepared for anything that might come your way on your special day. That’s where the wedding emergency kit comes in—a lifesaver packed with essentials to tackle any last-minute surprises and ensure your wedding day remains flawless from start to finish. So, what exactly is a wedding emergency kit for a wedding planner? Think of it as your personal arsenal of must-haves that can save the day when little snags threaten to steal the spotlight. Whether it’s a broken heel, a makeup mishap, a blister from dancing too hard, or an electrical outlet that’s just out of reach of the DJ, your emergency kit is there to swoop in and save the day.

Creating your own wedding emergency kit is easier than saying "I do"! Begin by selecting a sturdy and spacious container that can hold all your essentials. A stylish tote or a practical toolbox—choose whatever suits your style and keeps everything organized and easily accessible. The most important factor of the kit is functionality, so I definitely recommend opting for something with multiple compartments that you can label. Keep in mind that you’re not the only one who’s going to be using the emergency kit. Instead of sending someone from your wedding party to Target, you should just be able to send them to the easily identifiable emergency kit where they can find what they need. It’s also a smart move to brief your family, wedding party, and vendors on the whereabouts of the emergency kit so everyone’s in the loop when the unexpected arises.

Now, what we’re all here for: what to pack in your wedding emergency kit! Here’s a peek at the essentials recommended by our seasoned team of wedding planners at oso events:

  • Dental

    • Breath mints

    • Floss

    • Wisp toothbrushes

  • Misc.

    • Tissues

    • Hand sanitizer

    • Spray deodorant

    • Stain removal wipes

Attire:

  • Blister Bandaids

  • Chalk (used for stains on your wedding dress, KNOCK ON WOOD)

  • Clear nail polish (used to stop a snag on panty hose)

  • Crochet hook (for buttoning wedding dresses)

  • Fashion tape (securing clothes to skin)

  • Lint roller

  • Safety pins (super useful for an emergency dress hem!)

  • Sewing kit

  • Static spray (to keep your veils from dragging on the floor)

  • Steamer

Medical:

  • Basic First-Aid Kit

  • Feminine Hygiene Products

  • Insect Repellant

  • Medications (pain relievers, antacids, allergy medicine, etc.)

Miscellaneous:

  • Basic tool kit

  • Bottle & wine opener

  • Candle adhesive (to keep candles upright)

  • Candle lighters

  • Command hooks (hanging any decorations)

  • Disposable gloves (for anyone setting out your dessert bar or late night snack)

  • Portable phone chargers

  • Batteries (AA, AAA, and 1025)

  • Power strip (you never know when you need more outlets!)

  • Tape (packing, double sided tape, duct, floral, gaffing, scotch)

  • Super glue

  • Pens/Sharpies

  • Glue dots

  • Fishing wire (hanging signs)

  • Floral shears & floral wire (your florist will thank us)

  • Scissors (regular + fabric!)

  • Work light (especially for outdoor venues)

  • Zip ties (every event's best friend, trust us)

Personalize!:

  • You know what you need on a day to day basis better than anyone. Think about what you have in your everyday bag, the center console of your car, or at your desk at work. Are any of these things that would be helpful in your emergency kit?

But why bother with a wedding emergency kit, you wonder? Besides being a practical safety net, it’s all about peace of mind. Knowing you’ve expected the unexpected will lend itself to a stress-free day because you’re ready for whatever comes your way. If your main goal is to enjoy every moment of your celebration without stress, it helps to know you’ve got everything you need right at your fingertips. And while we hope most of the things in your kit go unused, the day is about spending time with friends and family. The emergency kit keeps the last-minute emergency runs to a minimum.

A wedding emergency kit is your secret weapon for a smooth sailing wedding day. At oso events, we believe in meticulous planning and thoughtful preparation to ensure your day is nothing short of magical. Ready to start planning your dream (emergency-free) wedding?
